GREENSBORO, April 4, 2008 – North Carolina A&T women’s tennis coach Andy Smith will have to wait one more year for his young Aggies women’s tennis program to take the next step. The Aggies dropped a conference match to Norfolk State 6-1 Friday afternoon at the Aggie Tennis Complex. The loss moves the Aggies to 3-15 overall and 0-4 in the MEAC. The Aggies did not qualify for the MEAC Tournament April 24-27 played in Raleigh. It marks the second straight season the Aggies have failed to qualify for the tournament. “It’s disappointing,’’ said Smith. “We’re just going to keep working hard to close out this season on a high note. I thought the ladies worked hard this year, we just have to keep building and keep improving.” A part of the Aggies future, freshman Winnie Quick, was the only Aggie winner on Friday. She defeated Brittany Foster 6-0, 7-6. She and sophomore Jaymee Jones fell short in doubles action as they lost to Fiorella Valdivia and Stepanka Velebova 8-5. The Aggies are in action again on April 11 when they host Virginia State at 3 p.m. It will be Senior Day for Tina Ruffin and Terika Palmer. |
