CHARLOTTE, January 23, 2009 –
The North Carolina A&T women’s tennis team opened the 2009 season with a 7-0 loss to Charlotte on Friday. The Aggies started the season by using two freshmen and a sophomore as the top three players in the lineup.

Freshman Shondra Redfern, opened her career by playing No. 1 singles against a tough 49ers team. Sophomore Winnie Quick lost 6-0 in the first of the No. 2 singles, but had a better showing in the second set, losing 6-2.

“I thought we did a good job of making adjustments in our second sets,’’ said head coach Andy Smith. “Making adjustments is going to be crucial to us throughout the season, so it was good to see the ladies do that.”

At No. 4 singles, junior Jaymee Jones had a competitive match against Charlotte’s Andrea Rivera, losing 6-2, 6-3. N.C. A&T lost the doubles point by being swept in all three matches. The Aggies are back in action on Saturday, January 31 when they go on the road to face Elon at 2:30 p.m.
