Damon Martin, the Aggies
No. 1 singles tennis player, continued his winning ways on Saturday by
earning a win over Campbell’s Marc Sifre in straight sets. Martin defeated Sifre 6-4, 7-5 to win his fourth match in a row and his ninth match in his last 10 outings. Martin is 12-6 on the season and 7-1 in the MEAC. He has won 11 of his 12 matches as the Aggies No. 1 singles player. “I had no problems today with my serve and volley game,” he said. “After yesterday’s match, I knew that I wanted to get off quickly and attack. Overall I think we did pretty well today.” The match consisted entirely of singles play, as Campbell won five of the six matches. Jared Martin played well, winning his first set against Sebastian Thesleff at No. 6 singles. Thesleff won the second set 6-2, and pulled out the tiebreaker 10-5 to seal the victory for the Camels. The Aggies will host their final home match of the season on Fri. Apr. 7, as they will take on Gardner-Webb at 3 p.m. The match will be the final appearance for seniors Damon Martin and Porter Myrick.
