AGGIE MEN CONTINUE THEIR SUCCESS IN ROUNDUP

ALTAMONTE, Fla. - February 23, 2006 – The N.C. A&T men’s tennis team ran its record to 4-0 at the MEAC Round-Up with victories over Morgan State and Howard in the second day of the round robin tournament.

The Aggies defeated Morgan State, 6-1. Damon Martin defeated Disa Mhembere in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3, then teamed with Porter Myrick to defeat Mauricio Ortiz and Juan Ortiz in No. 2 doubles, 9-7.

Jeremy Martin defeated Mauricio Ortiz, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 3 singles, while Jared Martin knocked off Juan Ortiz 6-3, 6-3 in No. 4 singles. The two then combined to defeat Mhembere and Dia Campbell, 8-6 in No. 3 doubles.

Vitas Hawley also won a pair of matches, defeating Mathew Townes in No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-4, and teaming with Londell Hartsfield to defeat Townes and Joaquin Turley, 8-5. Quincy Hawley wrapped up the match with a 7-6, 6-0 victory in No. 6 singles over Campbell.         

 N.C. A&T recovered from losses in No. 1 and No. 2 singles to defeat Howard, 5-2. Jeremy Martin defeated Othmane Gartha, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Jared Martin stopped Neilabh Avasthi in No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-2. Vitas Hawley defeated Chad Jones, 6-2, 6-3, while Quincy Hawley battled past Anthony Baldwin, 6-2, 6-1.

The Martin brothers came up big in securing the doubles point. Damon Martin and Porter Myrick avenged singles losses with an 8-1 victory over Garma and Baldwin at No. 2 doubles. Jeremy and Jared Martin shutout Avasthi and Jones, 8-0 in No. 3 doubles.

The Aggies will conclude action in the Round-Up tomorrow against Hampton and Maryland-Eastern Shore.
