Jared Martin finishes 6-0 in singles play ALTAMONTE, Fla. - February 25, 2006 – The N.C. A&T men’s tennis team ran its record to 5-1 at the MEAC Round-Up with a 6-1 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore. Hampton defeated the Aggies 5-1 in the last dual match of the day. N.C. A&T recorded five wins by shutout in the victory over UMES. Jared Martin led the way for the Aggies, as he routed Harold Fowler 6-0, 6-0 and then teamed with brother Jeremy Martin to earn a 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. Jeremy Martin defeated Christopher Clarke, 6-2, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. Porter Myrick was a double winner, posting a victory at No. 1 singles, then combining with Damon Martin to defeat Fowler and Kapila Pilimatalauwe, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles. Quincy Hawley also notched a shutout at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Pilimatalauwe. Two Aggies recorded their first victories of the season in the rout. At No. 5 doubles, Patrick McCarter defeated Andrew Graham, 8-0, while Kai Sinclair knocked off William Ntirerigamya, 8-0. Jared Martin was the only Aggie to earn a victory against defending champion Hampton, defeating Nicholas Hudson in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 at No. 3 singles. Martin completed the tournament 6-0 in singles play and combined with brother Jeremy to finish 5-1 in doubles competition. The Aggies improved their overall record to 5-4, 5-1 against the MEAC and will next play at Longwood in Farmville, Va. on Sat. Feb. 11, at 1 p.m.
