LADY AGGIES LOSE SEASON OPENER

GREENSBORO, N.C., February 8, 2006 – The North Carolina A&T tennis team dropped its first match of the season as Elon defeated the Aggies 7-0 at the Aggies Tennis Complex.

 Deandra Bailey came the closest to earning a point for the Aggies. In the No. 3 singles match, Bailey lost 6-0 in the first set, but battled back and lost 6-4 in the second. In doubles, Bailey teamed with Tracey Ross and the two played Whitney Butcher and Melissa Holland to an 8-6 finish.

 “We played a very good team tonight,’’ said N.C. A&T women’s tennis coach James Dunwoody. “Our players accepted the challenge against Elon, played well as team and competed with intensity.”

 Elon was led by Evin Prelec who won her No. 1 singles match in straight sets – 6-1, 6-1 – over Kathryn Jackson and teamed with Kelly Fleck to beat N.C. A&T’s Jackson and Christina Ruffin 8-1. The Aggie women are back in action this Saturday when they face Coastal Carolina at the Aggies Tennis Complex, starting at 1 p.m.
