Bailey gets first career victories

 ALTAMONTE, Fla., - February 22, 2006 – The North Carolina A&T women’s tennis team opened the MEAC season with a 6-0 victory over Florida A&M, improving its record to 1-1 overall. After having several matches postponed because inclement weather, the Aggies were finally able to showcase what's in on hand for the 2006 season.

 Freshman Deandra Bailey led the Aggies as she won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4 over Shannon Belser, then teamed with Tracy Ross for an 8-0 victory over Belser and Ashley Green in No. 2 doubles. Ross defeated Green at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2 while Christina Ruffin defeated Samaria Bailey in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

In other singles action, Terika Palmer knocked off Niambi Smith, 6-0, 6-1, while Shannon Pittman rolled past Daenetta Thompson, 6-1, 6-2. Palmer and Pittman completed the sweep with an 8-1 victory in doubles action over Thompson and Smith.

The Aggies will stay in Altamonte for the upcoming MEAC Round-Up, which will take place Feb. 23-25. N.C. A&T will battle the six Northern Division teams in the round-robin tournament.
