AGGIES WIN EIGHT EVENTS AT LIBERTY

Lee, Newman perform well in sprinting events

LYNCHBURG, Va., February 9, 2007 – Antonio Lee won the men’s 200 meter dash at the Liberty 4-Way Meet and went on to have a second-place finish in the 60 meter dash and third-place finish in the 400-meter dash. All together, the Aggies won eight events over the weekend as they look ready to head to Landover, Md., for the MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on May 16-17.

Calesio Newman also had an outstanding day. Newman won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.80, coming in six-tenths of a second faster than Lee. Newman finished behind Lee in the 200 by five-tenths of a second. The other men’s win came in the 4x400 meter relay as the team ran a 3:23.55.

On the women’s side, Jennifer Jackson finished just ahead of last week’s standout Alexandria Spruiel in the 200 with a first-place time of 24.93. Christina Gray had a first-place finish in the 400 meters as three other Aggies – Shoneterria Fulton, Takisha Wise and Sha Tara Taylor – finished in the top 10 in the event.  

Janee Cadlett was a winner in the 800 meters, while Kimona Smith gave the Aggies a win in a field event with a leap of 19-feet, 6-inches in the long jump. The women earned their other win in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:51.08. Combined, the Aggies had 41 top-10 finishes in Lynchburg, Va.
