Aggies appear ready for MEAC Championships CHAPEL HILL, January 27, 2007 – Ron Buchanan, who has had the privilege of learning behind All-Americans Brandon Via and Everett Bruce in the triple jump, appears to be ready to become the Aggies next great jumper. The junior out of Winston-Salem won the triple jump at the University of North Carolina Fast Times event with a leap of 49-feet, 11-inches in Chapel Hill. Buchanan finished fifth in the MEAC Indoor Championships last season and had a fourth-place finish in the MEAC Outdoors in May. This weekend’s event was Buchanan’s first of the season as he attempts to earn a MEAC crown in Landover, Md., in February. Teammates Tarrish Alexander and David McFadden came in third and fourth respectively behind Buchanan in the triple jump. McFadden already has fifth place finish this season. In the distance races, Kavaughn Brown finished fourth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:55.58. It was Brown’s third top 10 finish of the season. On the women’s side, Alexandria Spruiel continued to give a preview of what could be to come in sprints with a third-place finish in the 400 meter dash. In the women’s triple jump, Kimona Smith and Brittany Dixson finished third and fourth respectively in the triple jump. The Aggies indoor teams return to action on Feb. 9 in Liberty’s 4-Way race in Lynchburg. The race will be a tune up for the MEAC Indoor Championships, which is a week later. |
