AGGIES OPEN OUTDOOR SEASON

Phifer, Smith have second-place finishes

CHARLOTTE, March 17, 2007 The North Carolina A&T track teams began their outdoor seasons over the weekend with a meet at Charlotte University. Men’s standout Lonnie Phifer had the highest finish of any N.C. A&T men’s athlete.

The sophomore out of Greensboro finished second in the shot put with a throw of 55-feet, 9 ¼ inches to finish behind N.C. State’s Mitchell Pope. Phifer was in the 13th place at the conclusion of the men’s discus throw with a toss of 138-feet, 10-inches.

David McFadden also had a decent day with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a best leap of 46-feet, 7 ¼ inches.

On the women’s side, Kimona Smith continued to show she has an outstanding future in the jump events. After an impressive indoor season, Smith opened the outdoor season with a second-place showing in the long jump. She jumped 18-feet, 6-inches to finish behind Wisconsin’s Chavon Robinson.

Jerrine Foster had two top 10 finishes in throws over the weekend. Foster finished fourth in the shot put with a best throw of 45-feet, ½ inches. She also had an eighth place finish in the discus with a toss of 126-feet, 6-inches.
