Foster records two third-place finishes

WINSTON-SALEM, March 22, 2009 – Senior Lonnie Phifer started his final outdoor season off right by winning yet another shot put event. This time the victory came at the Wake Forest Open as the Greensboro native’s best throw went 55-feet, 7 ½ inches.

Phifer’s teammate Robert Boulware finished fourth in the same event with a throw of 51-feet, 8 ¼ inches. Phifer took home his seventh first-place finish in the outdoor shot put. The Aggies other top finishes on the men’s side included a third-place finish in the triple jump by Wade Watkins. Watkins jumped 47-feet, 7 ¾ inches to earn his highest finish in the event. Teammate Jared Baldwin finished fourth in the same event.

Gordon Smith also had a third-place finish as he jumped 6-feet, 5 ½ inches in the high jump. In all, the Aggie men had nine top 10 finishes.

On the women’s side, Jerrine Foster had two third place finishes. She finished third in the shot put and discus. Her best throw in the shot put was 46-feet, 1 ½ inches. She followed that with a 145-foot, 2-inch throw in the discus. Foster’s teammate Katherine Forrester finished fifth in both events.

The Aggies had two top-five finishers in the 200 meters. Krystin Lawson finished fourth with a time of 24.89, and Ruth Hunt finished fifth with a time of 24.97. Amanda Breeden had one of the Aggie females’ top-10 finishes with a sixth-place finish in the high jump.

The Aggies are back in action March 27-28 when they participate in the Raleigh Relays. The Aggies first home meet will be April 3-4 in the Aggie Relays.
