NEWMAN, ELLIOTT TAKE FIRST PLACE

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., February 1, 2010 – The North Carolina A&T men’s indoor team produced two first-place finishes at the Penn State Nationals. Senior Calesio Newman had another stellar showing in the 60 meters. He ran a 6.70 in the preliminaries, a 6.72 in the semifinals before earning his second win of the season by running another 6.70 in the finals.

Newman finished fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 6.74. Newman, who has already been named MEAC Athlete of the Week this season, is currently a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships.

Newman was not alone in the first-place circle. Sophomore Jarrell Elliott put together a stellar performance that earned him the top spot in the 400 meter dash. Elliott ran a 47.90. D’Mitri Bouttry finished fifth in the same event. Senior David McFadgen had another outstanding showing.

After finishing in first-place in the triple jump at the Virginia Tech Invitational, McFadgen finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 51-feet, 11-inches. He then had a third-place finish long jump at 23-feet, 10 ¼ inches.

In the women’s long jump, Shakia Forbes’s best jump was 19-feet, 9 ½ inches. It earned her a third-place finish. Senior Jerrine Foster placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 46-feet, 8 ¾ inches.
