BYRON BREAKS MEAC INDOOR RECORD

Aggie Men in seventh after first day

 LANDOVER, Md., February 17, 2006 – North Carolina junior sprinter Justin Byron broke the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor record in the 200 meters with a time of 21.41 to break Hampton’s Jerome Mathis’ (currently with the NFL’s Houston Texans) record of 21.48 set in 2003 on the first day of the 2006 MEAC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships at Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex.

 Byron’s record time qualified him for the 200-meter finals on Saturday. Bryon also qualified for the 60-meter dash and the 400-meter dash on the championship’s first day on Friday. Antonio Lee also qualified in the 60-meter dash and 200.

 The Aggies’ Brandon Via finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 23-feet, three-inches, while teammate Cerone Burnett finished fifth with a mark of 23-feet.

 Dominique Camm finished first the Heptathlon’s high jump by jumping 6-feet, 4-inches. He finished sixth in the Heptathlon’s shot put, seventh in the long jump and sixth in the 60-meter dash of the Heptathlon.

 The Aggie men are in seventh place after the first day.

 On the women’s side, three Aggies qualified in the 60-meter hurdles. Lauren Taylor, Caryle Decruise and Kendra Newton will all compete for the individual title. Taylor earned the Aggies six points by finishing third in the long jump with a jump of 19-feet, 6-inches.

 Senior Courtney Clark qualified for Saturday’s 200-and-400-meter dash. Alexandria Spruiel also qualified in the 400. PhyKesha Blackmon qualified for the 60-meter dash. The Aggie women are 10th after Day 1.
