AGGIES COMPETE IN MEAC XC CHAMPIONSHIPS

CARY, N.C., October 29, 2005 -- The Howard University women and the Norfolk State University men captured the 2005 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship titles Saturday afternoon at the SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

Norfolk State men scored 20 points, an all-time MEAC Championship record, to capture its unprecedented sixth consecutive title. The Lady Bison won their seventh overall title.

Hampton's Krystle Medlin and Norfolk State's David Kemboi were name MEAC Outstanding Performers. Medlin finished first in the women's race with a time of 18:34 and Kemboi finished with a time of 23:30 to win the men's race.

Howard's Michael Merritt was named the Outstanding Coach for the women and Kenneth Giles of Norfolk State was selected the Outstanding Coach for the men.

On the women's side, Norfolk State was second (78), followed by Hampton (104), Florida A&M (106) and Delaware State (122).  The third place finish for Hampton, last year's champion, is the first time the Lady Pirates have not finished either first or second since the 2001 season, where they finished fourth.

For the men, second place went to Florida A&M (75), followed by Howard (105), UMES (118) and Coppin State (126).
