CHAPEL HILL, NC, January 14, 2006 -- The N.C. A&T women's indoor track team placed four runners in the top 10 of the 60 meter hurdles and had a third-place finish in the 1600 meter relay on Saturday at the UNC Opener in Chapel Hill. Kendra Newton led the way in the 60 meter hurdles with a fourth place finish and a time of 8.91. Caryle Decruise and Lauren Taylor finished fifth and sixth respectively. Courtney Clark came in 10th with a time of 9.27. The 1,600 meter relay team finished ahead of HBCUs like N.C. Central and S.C. State and they even topped UNC with a time of 3:54.91. Phykesha Blackmon also had a good showing. The senior out of Charlotte finished third in the 200 meter dash and sixth in the 60 meter dash. Blackmon ran a time of 25.30 in the 200 meters, while Taylor finished eighth at 26.11. Blackmon's time of 7.76 in the 60 meters helped her push ahead of two N.C. State runners. Teammate Khary Brown finished 11th in the event. On the men's side, the Aggies did well in the jumps. Dominique Camm took fifth place in the men's high jump with a leap of 6-05.50. Tarrish Alexander finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 22-11.75. Teammate Ron Buchanan finished three placed behind Camm in eighth. Lonnie Phifer also gave the Aggies a good showing in the throws by tossing his best shot put throw 46-09.00 for a fourth place finish. The Aggie track teams are back in action this weekend in the Niswonger Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn. |
