The hammer and discus throwers compete just outside BB&T Stadium. The javelin competition can be conducted inside or outside the stadium.

At the successful 2006 NCAA East Track and Field Regional Championship, A&T became the first historically black college or university to host an NCAA Regional and earned rave reviews for its hospitality and professionalism.

North Carolina A&T athletes have even benefited from the facility. The Aggies have world-renowned recognition for their track and field programs since the track was constructed including four athletes earning a spot on the U.S. Track and Field national team. The men’s team has won three conference championships at Irwin Belk while the women have won two.
