EUGENE, ORE., -- Senior Calesio Newman closed out his historic career at North Carolina A&T with three races at the NCAA Track and Field Nationals at Hayward Field.
Newman's final race was a 15th place finish in the men's 200 meters. Newman ran a 21.19 in the first heat. Newman, who became the first Aggie to qualify for nationals in three different events, also competed in the 100 meters and 400 meter relay with teammates Darryl Williams, Akinwole Jordan and Earl House.
The foursome failed to qualify for the finals. Their time was 40.28. UCLA was the last team to qualify by running a 39.75. Newman followed the 400 meter relay race with a 15th place in the 100 meters. Newman needed to finish in the top eight in both the 100 and 200 meters to qualify for the finals and be deemed an All-American. He ran a 10.43.
Newman sees his career come to an end as three-time qualifier for nationals and four-time qualifier for regionals and or the NCAA preliminary round. He is also the three-time defending MEAC champion in the 100 meters, and he captured the conference's 200 meter title in May.
