CHESAPEAKE, Va. - The North Carolina A&T bowling team
opened the season on Friday with two wins in Baker play before losing the next
three at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Bowling Invitational hosted by Hampton
University.
The Aggies defeated Chowan and Virginia State with their
best score bowled a 190 in the fifth match. After Day 1, the Aggies are in
fourth place after losses to Elizabeth City State, Bowie State and Norfolk
State.
They defeated Chowan 588-469 and Virginia State 648-547.
"There was a great start today," said N.C. A&T head
coach James Williams. "Our energy was high and our focus was awesome. As the
lanes became tougher, we started missing spares."
Routine spares were made by the Aggies on Friday, but they
did have to face a number of difficult spares. The Aggies will look to improve
their scores by making the single spares they missed Friday.
"In Bakers, every single spare is crucial because you don't
get many chances in a match," said Williams.
