Greensboro, N.C.-The N.C. A&T State
University men's and women's track and field teams will split up this weekend.
A small portion of the team will travel to the University of North Carolina to
compete at the UNC Invitational starting on Friday, while others travel to Penn
State to compete in the Penn State National Invitational, which also starts on
Friday.
Approximately
28 Aggies will compete on the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track at the Penn State
Invitational. According to head coach James Daniels, the more experienced athletes
will be at Penn State, while about five athletes will represent the NC A&T
in Chapel Hill.
At the Penn
State Invitational, redshirt junior Torrance Womack was invited to race in the
men's 200-meter dash and senior Jarrell Elliot earned an invite to compete in
the men's 500-meter dash. By virtue of
being invited to those races, Womack and Elliot will be competing against some
of the most elite athletes in the country.
Friday's events
at Penn State include the distance medleys and sprint finals and Saturday's
events feature middle distance races, distance races and relays.
The Aggies left
for State College, Pa. early Thursday morning to avoid the impending traffic
from the memorial service to be held at Penn State for former head football
coach Joe Paterno.
The UNC
Invitational starts with field events, sprints and distance medley relays.
Saturday's events feature field events, relays, long distance races, some
sprints and mid-distance events.
