November 13, 1984: Patricia Cage Bibbs
made her collegiate coaching debut at Grambling State University against Kansas
State in Topeka, Kan. The Tigers lost the game 92-70.
November 17, 1984: Bibbs earned her
first career win as a collegiate head coach, defeating Texas Southern 99-67 at
Texas Southern.
January 17, 1987: After getting her
first career win against Texas Southern, three years later she earned her 100th
career win against Texas Southern at her home court in Grambling.
February 23, 1987: Bibbs' Grambling team
defeated Jackson State 102-75 to clinch the SWAC regular-season title. It would
be the first of Bibbs' seven regular-season title in 13 seasons at Grambling.
March 5, 1988: The Grambling Tigers
defeated Mississippi Valley State 73-64 to lead Bibbs to the first of her six
SWAC Tournament championships. At the time, there was no automatic NCAA
Tournament bid for the SWAC.
March 5, 1994: Grambling defeated
Alcorn State and legendary coach Shirley Walker 112- 97 in the SWAC Tournament
championship. It was her fourth SWAC Tournament championship, but this
championship came with a bonus.
March 13, 1994: By virtue of the NCAA
women's basketball tournament expanding from 48 teams to 64 teams, the SWAC
Tournament champion earned an automatic bid in 1994, thus putting Bibbs and
Grambling in their first NCAA Tournament game.
March 17, 1994: Grambling gave No. 2
seed Vanderbilt a tough time before losing to the Commodores 95-85 in Bibbs'
first coached NCAA game.
Nov. 27, 1995: Grambling defeated Baptist
Christian 121-25 at Grambling. It was Bibbs' 200th career victory and still
stands as the most lopsided win of her career.
Feb. 27, 1997: Bibbs' Grambling team
defeated Jackson State 97-66 to complete Bibbs' first and only undefeated
conference season as the Tigers finished the SWAC 15-0.
March 8, 1997: Bibbs won the last of
her six SWAC tournaments in a 66-55 win over Alcorn State. Six days later she
would coach her final game at Grambling in a NCAA Tournament loss to Tennessee.
Nov. 18, 1997: Bibbs coached her
first game as the head women's basketball coach at Hampton University. The
Pirates lost to East Carolina 59-58 in Greenville, N.C. A week later, Bibbs
earned her first win as the Pirates head coach with a 76-74 win over Richmond.
March 11, 2000: Bibbs won her 300th
career game with a 66-64 win over Norfolk State in the MEAC Tournament
championship game. It was the first of Bibbs' three MEAC Tournament
championship wins.
March 13, 2004: Bibbs led the Pirates
to their third MEAC Tournament championship with a 65- 50 win over Delaware
State. Eight days later she would coach her final game at Hampton University in
a NCAA Tournament loss to Penn State.
March 30, 2005: After taking a year
off from coaching, Bibbs was announced as the seventh head coach in the history
of the North Carolina A&T women's program during a press conference at N.C.
A&T's Bryan Fitness and Wellness Center.
Nov. 18, 2005: Bibbs made her Aggies
coaching debut at Elon University. She lost to the Phoenix 75-70.
Jan. 9, 2006: After enduring the
longest losing streak of her career - 11 games - Bibbs won her first game as
the head coach of the Aggies with a thrilling 50-49 win over Delaware State in
Dover, Del.
Nov. 23, 2007: Five players score
in double figures to lead the Aggies to an 88-62 win over UNC Asheville. The
win gave Bibbs her 400th career win, making her the 38th active
women's basketball coach to accomplish the feat.
Feb. 11, 2008: Brittanie
Taylor-James scored 18 points and Ta'Wuana Cook added 13 points and eight
assists to lead the Aggies to an 89-55 win over Bethune-Cookman. The win was
the Aggies 10th straight, breaking a school record.
March 1, 2008: Amber Bland scored 24
points and grabbed nine rebounds to help the Aggies defeat Howard 84-71. The
win clinched the MEAC regular-season title for the Aggies. It marked the 10th
time Bibbs has won a regular-season championship.
March 10, 2008: Bibbs is named MEAC
Coach of the Year at the annual MEAC Tournament Basketball Banquet. It is the
ninth time in her career she has been the conference Coach of the Year.
March 14, 2008: The Aggies erased a
six-point overtime deficit in less than 2 ½ minutes to beat Hampton 74-71 in
overtime of the MEAC Tournament semifinals. The win earned Bibbs her sixth
appearance in the MEAC title game in her 11th season coaching in the MEAC.
March 21, 2008: The Aggies face the
South Carolina Gamecocks in the first round of the WNIT. It is Bibbs' seventh
postseason appearance.
January 19, 2009: Bibbs watched as
Brittanie Taylor-James scored her 1,000th career point. Taylor-James joined
Ta'Wuana Cook and Amber Bland has 1,000-point scorers on the same team. It was
a first in Bibbs' career. Bibbs also witnessed the Aggies come from 15 down
with 10 minutes remaining to beat conference foe Delaware State.
February 28, 2009: North Carolina
A&T defeated Howard 84-60 to clinch the Aggies second consecutive MEAC
regular-season title. It was the Aggies first back-to-back regular-season titles
in 18 seasons.
March 14, 2009: Tournament MVP Amber
Bland scored 18 points to help Bibbs win her 10th conference tournament
championship with a 76-54 defeat of her former employer, Hampton University. It
was Bibbs' first title as the Aggies head coach.
March 21, 2009: Bibbs leads the
Aggies to their first NCAA Tournament game in 15 years as N.C. A&T takes on
Florida State at Gwinnett Arena in Duluth, Ga. The Aggies trailed the
regular-season ACC champs by just three with a little more than 11 minutes to
play, and eventually lost 83-71.
Nov. 13, 2009: N.C. A&T played
Marist in the preseason WNIT. The preseason WNIT consists of some of the
premier programs in the country. The Aggies' invite showcased how much national
recognition the Aggies have received from the women's basketball world.
Feb. 27, 2010: Ta'Wuana "Tweet" Cook
scored 33 points to lead the Aggies to a 72-53 win over Coppin State in
Baltimore. The win clinched the Aggies third straight MEAC regular-season
title. The win also secured the Aggies third straight 20-win season.
March 18, 2010: In what was an
uplifting moment for North Carolina A&T State University, the Aggies
traveled to Winston-Salem, N.C., and blew out Wake Forest of the ACC 72-53 in
the first round of the WNIT. It marked the first time in school history the
Aggies defeated an ACC school.
March 21, 2010: N.C. A&T
continued to make Aggies proud as they defeated Charlotte 79-70 in the second
round of the WNIT. The Aggies became the first HBCU to win two consecutive games
in an NCAA.
