Greensboro, N.C.- Junior Jenea McCammon is going after the MEAC gold medal in the 400 meter hurdles she barely missed out on last season, and senior Jared Baldwin is trying to complement his MEAC indoor long jump title with a few outdoor titles in the jumps.

Both North Carolina A&T track and field athletes looked focus on their respective missions on March 23-24 at the University of South Carolina's Weems Baskin Invitational. McCammon won the women's 400 meter hurdles and was one-fourth of the women's 4x100 meter relay (Ruth Hunt, Shakia Forbes and Krystin Lawson) team that was victorious.

For her efforts, McCammon was named MEAC Female Track Athlete of the Week. Meanwhile, Baldwin captured first place in the men's triple jump to earn MEAC Male Field Athlete of the Week.

"I am extremely happy for Jared and Jenea, they have both been working very hard this season and their early season performances are indicative of such," said interim director of track and field programs James Daniels. "I know our institution, athletics department and track and field programs are very happy for them."

The outdoor track and field season is off to an outstanding start for A&T. The Aggies won five events over the weekend, including McCammon's two and Baldwin's one. In addition, Paris Simmons finished first in the men's 800 meters and the men's 4x100 relay team (Earl House, Darryl Williams, Jarrell Elliott and Torrance Womack) also finished in the winner's circle.

A year ago, McCammon finished the 400 meter hurdles in 1:00.37 at the 2011 MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at A&T's Irwin Belk Track.  On Saturday, she ran a 1:00.52. With the MEAC championships more than a month away, McCammon appears poised to come under her MEAC championship time of a year ago.

Baldwin placed first out of 28 competitors in the men's triple jump with an impressive distance of 48-feet, 4 ½ inches. In comparison, Baldwin jumped 47-feet, ½ inch in the triple jump at last year's MEAC championships as he finished seventh. The jumper also snagged sixth place in the men's long jump at the Weems Baskins Invitational with a distance of 22-feet, 8-inches.

McCammon and Baldwin join first-year thrower Everette Slocum as Aggies who have earned weekly accolades from the conference. Slocum won first place in the discus at the Wake Forest Track and Field Open on March 16.

The Aggies hope to continue their string of success as they prepare for the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., beginning April 6.
