GREENSBORO  - Future North Carolina A&T Aggie volleyball player Brooke Stamnes has been facing the top competition from around Canada this summer as part of Team Sask, the 18-and-under women's provincial team of Saskatchewan.

As a part of Team Sask, Stamnes, a 5-9 outside hitter from Loreburn, Saskatchewan, represents the entire province of Saskatchewan.  Team Sask participated in the National Team Challenge Cup held in Winnipeg, Manitoba July 18-22.  As part of their training, Team Sask trained with Canada's National Women's coaches and athletes. 

"We are very proud of Brooke for making Team Sask," said A&T head coach Hal Clifton.  "It's a great honor for her to represent her Province on a national level.  Training with the Canadian National Team and their coaches is an excellent opportunity for Brooke.  Few players get to do this, so it will be another experience she can draw from when she is on the court here at A&T."

Previously this year, Stamnes earned a silver medal with the Saskatoon JCVC Extreme 18-and-under team while being named a Provincial All-Star.  Stamnes has now won three consecutive silver medals with Extreme. Her Loreburn Central School team has won three consecutive provincial championships - the U.S. equivalent to state championships.   

Stamnes and the Aggies begin their season Friday, Aug. 24 in the Western Carolina Wildcat Classic in Cullowhee, N.C. The Aggies open the Classic against St. Peter's at 4 p.m. Stamnes will play at home for the first time on Friday, Sept. 7 when the Aggies face American at 7 p.m.
