GREENSBORO - North Carolina A&T forward
Austin Witter blocked nine shots over two games last week to earn MEAC
Defensive Player of the Week in men's basketball for the week ending Feb. 3.
Among
Witter's nine blocks was a game-winning swat against Coppin State's Patrick
Cole with 2.2 seconds remaining to lead A&T to a 63-62 win on Jan 28 at
Corbett Sports Center. Witter had four blocks against the Eagles and followed
up that performance with five blocks in a 46-44 win over Maryland Eastern Shore
on Feb. 2 in Princess Anne, Md.
Witter (6-8, 195,
Princeton Junction, N.J.) leads the MEAC and ranks 10th nationally
in blocked shots at 3.0 per game. His 68 blocks puts him 18 blocks behind
former teammate Thomas Coleman for the Aggies single-season record set during
the 2008-09 season.
This marks
Witter's second MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honor during the 2012-13
season. He won the weekly honor in the week ending on Dec. 16.
