DOVER, Del.- The North Carolina A&T bowling team came in
seventh place in the Capital Classic tournament on Sunday at the Brunswick
Doverama.
The Aggies (33-21, 10-6 MEAC) entered the bracket
competition as the seventh seed. They
opened the day against N.C. Central, defeating the Eagles 4-1. The Aggies then advanced to face No. 12 St.
Francis, and lost 4-2. The Aggies bested
N.C. Central 4-1 again to end the
tournament in seventh.
The Aggies finished the Capital Classic with a 7-6 record,
and a total pinfall of 8,538. A&T
had two players average over 200 for the tournament in senior Amber Brown
(200.6) and freshman Emily Strombeck (206.4).
Strombeck also recorded a new season-high game by bowling a 237 against
No. 9 Adelphi on Saturday.
Freshman Najah Owens averaged a season-best 182.2 in the
tournament, and recorded a new season-high game when she bowled 235 against
Hampton in head-to-head competition on Saturday.
The Aggies will compete in the Morgan State Invitational
from Feb. 15-17 in Towson, Md. It will
be their final match before competing in the final conference tournament of the
season on March 2-3 to determine who advances to the MEAC Championship
Tournament.
