Gray, Lawrence Compete At Regionals

GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T had two athletes compete Friday at the 2013 NCAA East Division I Track and Field East Preliminary Round at A&T's Irwin Belk Track.  Desmond Lawrence competed in the men's 100 meters quarterfinals.

Lawrence ran a 10.44, but it was not good enough to qualify for NCAA Nationals, which will be held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.  Nakita Gray also tried to qualify for nationals, but came up short in the women's high jump. Gray jumped 5-feet, 7 ¾ inches to finish tied for 14th, but short of a qualifying mark.

The Aggies have one more chance to secure a spot at nationals. Keenan Smith will try to become the first Aggies triple jumper since Brandon Via in 2006 to qualify for NCAA Nationals. Smith, the MEAC Outdoor Champion in the triple jump, will take his first jump at 1 p.m., on Saturday.
