GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T women's basketball team placed four players in double figures and won easily over Division III Christopher Newport 74-48 in an exhibition game, Monday evening at Corbett Sports Center.

Redshirt sophomore Aprill McRae led all players in scoring with 20 points. McRae was 8-for-13 from the field and 4-for-6 at the line. She also finished with eight rebounds and four steals. Senior Tracy King recorded 12 points, a game-high 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals.

“It was great to show our fans and our home crowd what we’ve been working on in preseason,” head coach Tarrell Robinson said. “The ladies did a great job of displaying that tonight. Aprill played awesome for this to be her first game in an Aggie uniform. The best is yet to come for Aprill. I was also impressed by Tracy. She’s a leader on the floor and she’s our vocal leader. She did a great job defensively. I wanted to make sure everyone got a chance to get in the game and execute defensively and I think we did that well.”

Junior Adriana Nazario added 16 points and senior DeAndra Davis finished with 11. The Aggies dominated in the paint with 54 points and scored 22 off CNU turnovers. A&T shot 55.6 percent (30-for-54) from the floor and took a 41-27 advantage in rebounds over Christopher Newport. The Aggies defense also limited CNU to a 26.7 percent shooting performance.

CNU trailed by 17 at the half, 36-19. as A&T scored 10 unanswered points to open the game. The Aggies led 17-5 before Christpher Newport scored its first field goal, a layup from Nicole Mitchell with 8:27 left in the first half.

A&T continued to dominate on all facets of the game in the second half and McRae gave the Aggies their largest lead, 69-40, on a layup with 3:59 remaining in the game.

A&T opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 8  against Quinnipiac in the WNIT in Hamden, Conn.
