GREENSBORO – SophomoreTe'Borah Hawkins-Hollingsworth recorded a match-high eight kills to help the North Carolina A&T volleyball team sweep Savannah State 3-0 (25-19, 14, 14) in a MEAC match, Friday evening at Tiger Arena.

The win pushed the Aggies (7-22 overall) to a 6-3 record in league play, its best mark under head coach Hal Clifton. The last time A&T was 7-3 in the MEAC was the 2006 season.

“We played a nice, solid match tonight,” Clifton said. “The team stuck to the game plan and handled everything Savannah threw at us. It was another good team effort. Our goal is to remain focused and create scoring opportunities. We need to play solid, energized, defense.”

Hawkins-Hollingsworth hit .412 against the Tigers (0-29, 0-9). It was Hawkins-Hollingsworth’s second time leading the Aggies in kills this season. Jillian Nobles added seven kills and produced a match-high .467 hitting percentage. Aleena McDaniel and Brooke Stamnes led A&T with 11 and 10 digs respectively. Chelsea Fox finished with a team-high 11 assists to notch her sixth double-figures match in assists this season.

A&T and Savannah State played a tight first set but the Aggies finally broke loose to take a 16-12 lead. After holding the lead for the following points, A&T won the set on a 4-2 rally.

The Aggies cruised through the second set and Nobles gave A&T the 15-5 lead with an assist from Liz Martino. A&T continued to stretch its advantage and McDaniel and Fox gave A&T its final points with a pair of kills and a service ace.

A kill from Maris Kellar, two service aces from McDaniel and a Tiger error pushed the Aggies to a 4-0 edge to open the third set. A&T took a 10-point lead after Nobles delivered a kill with an assist from Fox to push it to a 16-6 advantage.

A&T will conclude the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 10 at S.C. State beginning at 1 p.m. A win will secure the No. 2 seed out of MEAC South for the Aggies.
