A&T Remains Perfect at VUU Invitational

Greensboro – The North Carolina A&T bowling team remain undefeated during the second day of the Virginia Union University (VUU) Invitational in five traditional team games.

“The team competed today,” head coach James Williams said. “They stayed focused and didn’t let the competition dictate how we bowled. They led the entire way and didn’t let up.”

The Aggies have posted a 9-0 mark in the tournament and remain in first place. Freshman Kristin Shinn led A&T with a pinfall of 1029. Shinn averaged a 205.80 on Saturday which is tied for first in player averages. Sophomore Emily Strombeck also had a strong performance and finished second overall with an average of 203.60. Freshman Jorie Sineath appeared in three games and averaged 184.50.

In its first game, A&T defeated New Jersey City 875-619 and was led by Strombeck with a 192. Shinn (223) and Strombeck (222) headed the Aggies in their 956-783 victory over Winston-Salem State.

Strombeck had her best outing of the day against Chowan where she rolled a season-high 238 to lift A&T to a 971-624 win. Sophomore Najah Owens finished with a 201. The Aggies took down Bowie State 913-839 where they were led by Shinn who notched a career-high 243. In the final game of the day, Owens propelled A&T to a 958-643 win against St. Augustine’s with a season-high 216. Owens finished with an overall average of 179. Senior Courtney Crook played in three games and averaged 176.33. Senior Cherise Poole tallied an average of 166.6.

A&T earned the No. 1 seed in Sunday’s bracket play and will face host VUU who is seeded eigth at 9 a.m.
