CHESAPEAKE, Va. – The North Carolina A&T bowling team advanced to Sunday’s MEAC semifinal against sixth-seeded Florida A&M after posting a 2-1 mark in Saturday’s best-of-seven, double elimination baker series at AMF Lanes.

The Aggies (77-33) who earned the second seed after Friday’s traditional team games will have the opportunity to face the top seed and defending MEAC champs, UMES on Sunday if they defeat FAMU in the semifinal round. No. 13 A&T and No. 3 UMES are the only nationally ranked teams left in the tournament.

“Today was not one of our best performances,” said head coach James Williams. “Luckily we have a chance tomorrow to do better.”

A&T opened the day with a 4-0 win over No. 7 Morgan State and defeated No. 6 Florida A&M, 4-1, before falling to UMES 4-1 in match nine.

UMES bowled its way into the championship match defeating Coppin State (4-1), Norfolk State (4-0) and A&T in the winner’s portion of the bracket.

Florida A&M took down No. 3 Delaware State 4-1 in its first match. After falling 4-1 in the next round to A&T, the Rattlers bounced back in the consolation bracket with a 4-3 win over No. 5 Bethune-Cookman.

The 2014 MEAC Bowling Championship wraps up on tomorrow at 10 a.m. beginning with the semifinal round and concluding with the championship final at noon. The championship match will be televised in a tape-delayed format and will air on ESPNU on March 31 at 10:30 p.m.
