GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T volleyball team wrapped up another productive spring season that allowed it to see a mix of different lineups, work on new technique and build up for what hopes to be a strong fall season.

After months of practice and strength and conditioning, the Aggies finally got a chance to see what they had been working on come into fruition.

“I think the team is in the best shape physically that it has ever been since I took over almost three years ago,” explained Clifton. “Thanks to our strength and conditioning staff and the dedication of our team in the weight room and in conditioning activities we were able to keep our fitness level all day.  We have to be jumping as high, moving as fast, and hitting as hard at the end of the match as we do at the beginning for us to make a run for the title this year. “

A&T kicked off the spring season by taking on Winston-Salem State and Livingstone at WSSU.

“We only dropped one set that day,” head coach Hal Clifton said. “We played very well and it was good to see many of the things we worked on in individual and team practices carry over to a match situation.  Everyone had opportunities to compete and show us what they are able to do in a match-like environment.”

But A&T wasn’t done yet. The Aggies hosted Elon, Wingate, Radford, and UNCG at the Greensboro Sports Complex. Although it was a much tougher tournament, A&T competed well against their opponents, considering that their rosters had more experienced players while A&T’s team consists of rising sophomores and juniors.

Clifton’s assessment of the spring season is that the Aggies are now a better blocking team. A&T also focused on improving on the first contact from serve receive to digging and controlling the first.

“Both tournaments allowed us to work on different lineups and also showed us where we needed to improve in some areas,” said Clifton. “The best thing I can say is that we competed in each and every match.  That is something we have to do no matter who the opponent is this fall.  Go out and compete, leave it all on the floor and the results will take care of themselves.”

A&T will start the fall season on Friday, August 29 at the Indiana State tournament.
