One of the most versatile players in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference…Can play setter, outside hitter, right side and even middle hitter … Her presence allows N.C. A&T to have a more flexible offense depending on the opponent … She is also a strong defensive player … Had a breakout season in 2016 where she earned first-team All-MEAC honors … Received the team’s Most Improved Award in 2014 … Named the team’s MVP in 2016 … Over her career, Brown has played 255 sets within 72 matches with 68 starts … Has 627 kills (2.46 per set), 260 assists (1.02), 61 service aces (0.24), 114 total blocks (0.45) with 16 solo blocks and 454 digs (1.78) in her career … Has 1,996 total attempts and a career .148 hitting percentage…Also has 11 career double-doubles.  

2016 Season:  Played in 24 matches with 24 starts over a total of 89 sets played…Totaled 315 kills (3.54 per set) with 163 errors on 910 total attacks…Completed the season with a .167 hitting percentage…Had 180 digs (2.02), 18 assists (0.20), and 36 total blocks (0.40)…Finished first on the team in kills and service aces (0.28) and was second in digs….Ranked third in the MEAC in kills per game and second in points per game (4.08) … Had six double-doubles throughout the season…Played 19 matches with 10 or more kills…Had double-digit kills in 12 of her last 13 matches…Recorded a season-high 20 kills with 17 digs against Savannah State in Moore Gym on Oct. 28…Tallied 14 kills with a career-high 26 digs in final regular season match against N.C. Central on Nov. 11…Named first-team All-MEAC for first time in career…Named to MEAC All-Academic team for 2015-16 year.

2015 Season: Played in 18 matches with 16 starts over a total 61 sets played…Totaled 156 kills (2.56 per set) 79 errors on 496 total attacks…Improved her hitting percentage from her freshman season (.112) to .155 as a sophomore…Tallied 85 digs (1.39), 41 assists (0.67), and 24 total blocks (0.39) … Finished second on the team in kills per game, second in total attacks and fourth in assists per game … Had five matches where she recorded 10 or more kills … Posted a season-high 15 kills along with seven digs in a 3-1 win over S.C. State at Moore Gymnasium on Nov. 1 … Recorded seven kills and had a season-best 16 assists in a 3-1 win over N.C. Central on Oct. 23 at Moore Gym … Led the Aggies to a 3-2 win over Norfolk State at home with 14 kills, eight digs and a career-best three services aces … Posted a career-high .350 hitting percentage on eight kills, one attack error and 20 total attacks in a loss to UNC Greensboro on Sept. 12.

2014 Season: Started and played in all 28 matches over a total of 105 sets played … Was second on the team in assists (201/1.91 per set) and aces (29/0.28 per set)…Was also second in blocks with 54 (0.51 per set) … Finished with 156 kills (1.49 per set) which was fourth on the team and 189 digs (1.80 per set) … Recorded five double-doubles … Recorded 10 kills and added nine digs in at The Citadel Invitational against Stetson on Sept. 6… Named to the Aggie-Spartan Invitational All-Tournament Team Nearly on Sept. 13 after finishing the tournament with 18 kills, 23 digs,10 blocks and three aces … Finished with a career-high 16 kills against USC Upstate on Sept. 20 … Nearly  recorded a triple double in that same match where she finished with a career-high 18 digs and nine assists … Posted a season-best six blocks against Campbell (Oct. 21)…Had a season-best three aces in a 3-1 win over N.C. Central (Sept. 26) … Registered six consecutive matches from Oct. 21-Nov. 9 where she tallied double-figure assists. 

High School: Was a four-year member of the Leesville Road varsity volleyball team under head coach Taine Mergenthaler … Ended her senior season in 2013 by earning the team’s MVP award and being named Cap 8 4A honorable mention after recording 231 kills, 59 blocks, 159 digs and 66 aces … In 2012, she led Leesville to an appearance in the state championship, was named All-Cap 8 first team and received Leesville’s Most Improved Award … Was a member of the Triangle Volleyball Club under the direction of Jim Freeman and Mike Schall.

Personal: Full name is Samara MacKenzie Brown … She is the daughter of Bill and Jacqueline Deas-Brown … She has two siblings, Tabitha and Casianna … She was born on August 19, 1996 and will major in psychology… Plans on coaching volleyball in the future …Her interests include sports medicine …Her favorite book is The Great Gatsby, her favorite television show is “Wipeout” and her favorite food is Mexican food.
