READING, Pa. (January 22, 2017) – North Carolina A&T moved up one spot to finish the Kutztown Invitational in 12th place after bracket play on Sunday. The Aggies finished the tournament 10-5 with a 187.3 per game average. The Aggies are 37-29 on the season.
“I couldn't be more proud of this team,” said head coach Kim Terrell-Kearney. “This has been our best showing so far this season. We beat some really good teams. The goal is just to keep reaching for our own excellence.”
The Aggies started bracket play with a 4-2 win over Central Missouri, picking up two 200-plus pin fall games in Game 1 and Game 6. Their 221 tied their day-high, as well. The Aggies went on to face Adelphi after the Panthers 4-2 loss to Youngstown State in Round 1. N.C. A&T defeated the Panthers 4.5-1.5, finishing with their final three games all over 200 including another 221 Game 6 finish. Standing at 2-0 on the day, N.C. A&T went into the position round against Youngstown State, but fell to the Penguins to finish the tournament in 12th. The Aggies were able to get a 146-142 win in Game 4, but it was not enough to stop Youngstown on their way to a 4-1 win over N.C. A&T to finish 11th.
Kristin Shinn showed the Aggie team what veteran leadership is all about as she finished third overall individually to make the all-tournament first team. She averaged 225.50 over six games with back-to-back games over 240. Mia Pope had the second-best individual performance for the Aggies, finishing 33rd overall with a 194.17 average.
Next up, the Aggies travel to Arlington, Texas for the Prairie View Invitational from Jan. 27-29 in hopes of building on their spring schedule success.
