GREENSBORO (March 1, 2017) – While North Carolina A&T’s softball matchup against UNC Wilmington was cut short due to inclement weather, the Aggies still put up an impressive performance against the Seahawks in a game that ended in a 4-4 tie Wednesday afternoon at the Aggie Softball Complex. The game ended after seven innings.

Starter Mohagony Headen pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and four earned runs. Six Aggies made contact from the plate including Lauren Dunlow who captured her fourth RBI of the season. Center fielder Raven Gray and Kimberly Brunson went 1-for-2 with Brunson scoring a run.

The Aggies (5-11-1) rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the third after not getting a hit through the first two innings. Talisha Jenkins led off with a single to left field and advanced to second on a passed ball. A follow-up single from Zadia Davis put runners on first and third before Davis stole second and Jenkins scored on the throw to cut the Seahawks lead to 2-1. Davis moved to third on a groundout from Gray before a double to deep center field from Williams tied the game.

After a pitching change by the Seahawks with Sarah Davis coming in to replace Haley Lenderman, Williams stole third. After a pop up to second from Nathaly Pacheco, Jillian Nobles reached on an error at shortstop, allowing Williams to cross home for the first Aggies lead of the game, 3-2. UNCW scored one run a piece in the fourth and fifth innings off two hits and an error, but N.C. A&T retaliated in the sixth with a tying run of their own.

With two outs on the board, Brunson doubled to left field and scored on an RBI single from Dunlow. Unfortunately, after the Seahawks went down in order in the top of the seventh, the Aggies did not have time to take over the lead before the storm moved in as the game ended in a tie. N.C. A&T starts off an eight-game road stretch this weekend in the Alabama State Tournament in Montgomery. The Aggies start the tournament against Loyola on March 4 at 2 p.m., before facing the hosting Hornets at 6 p.m.
