TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 9, 2017) – After two big wins over three-time defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division champion Florida A&M on Saturday, the North Carolina A&T baseball team did not have as good a time of it on Sunday at Moore-Kittles Filed.

The Rattlers defeated the Aggies 10-0 in seven innings due to the MEAC run-rule that ends the game if a team trails by 10 runs or more after seven. The Aggies registered only one hit off Florida A&M starter Aubrey McCarty (RHP) who pitched a complete-game shutout to improve to 4-2 on the season. After two straight strong performances on Sundays, Kaeson Wilson (3-3) faced only 13 batters in 1 2/3 innings and took the loss.

The Aggies are still in the thick of what looks to be an entertaining MEAC Southern Division race that will culminate in only three of five teams from the division qualifying for the MEAC tournament in Salisbury, Md., May 18-21. N.C. A&T (16-14, 7-5 MEAC) and Florida A&M (17-14, 7-5 MEAC) are tied for second with North Carolina Central behind Bethune-Cookman at 8-4. N.C. A&T’s next conference three-game series is April 14-15 at War Memorial Stadium against rival school NCCU (1 p.m., DH on Saturday, 1 p.m., Sunday).

The Rattlers’ move into second was aided by a first at-bat on Sunday that produced multiple runs. Two one-out walks led to an RBI single from McCarty. An error at third for N.C. A&T allowed Willis McDaniel to reach and Ben Ellzey to score for a 2-0 Rattlers lead. Dallas Oliver followed with followed with an RBI single down the right field line to score McCarty. The inning kept going as Kaycee Reese recorded the third RBI single of the inning, scoring McDaniel. Octavien Moyer gave the Rattlers a 5-0 lead on RBI sacrifice fly to right.

Thanks to McCarty’s performance on the mound the Rattlers first was enough. The Rattlers reached their 10-run lead on a Ty Russ RBI single with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. Before their three-game series against NCCU, the Aggies will travel to Charlotte to face the Charlotte 49ers 6 p.m., Tuesday.
