EAST GREENSBORO (October 11, 2018) –The North Carolina A&T cross country teams are coming off great performances again. At the HBCU XC Challenge this past weekend, the women won their second straight meet while the men placed second.
The ladies are looking to keep the momentum going heading into this Friday’s
N.C. A&T has already faced HPU and Appalachian State. The Aggies are competing at HPU for the second consecutive. HPU is in its third year hosting the event, which is known for its flat course. Flat courses allow for faster times, but they also have a lot of turns that could potentially slow a runner down if runners don't attack them properly. The VertCross course mimics the course terrain in Smyrna, Del., where the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference will host the 2018 cross country championships on Oct. 27.
Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex is a 2k loop which makes it accessible for spectating and following any position changes during the races. The loop gives runners an opportunity to keep an eye on the rest of the field and pace themselves with each loop. HPU’s women took the gold during last year’s event. Both App State and ETSU placed in the top-3 on the men’s and the women’s side. Furman took the gold on the men’s side.
