LYNCHBURG, Va. (February 8, 2019) – A portion of the North Carolina A&T indoor men’s and women’s track and field team competed Friday at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty University. The second day of competition starts on Saturday morning at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.

The first day of action saw senior Derrick Wheeler have another fantastic day in the men’s weight throw. A week after breaking the school record with a throw of 64-feet, ½-inch at the Camel City Invitational, Wheeler made a throw of 62-feet, 11 ½-inches on his last opportunity of the competition to finish second behind Charlotte’s Stevan Veselinovic.

Wheeler came into the weekend as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) leader in the weight throw. Teammate and sophomore Aaron Wilkerson came into this weekend’s action ranked third in the conference in the weight throw with a throw of 53-feet, 3-inches. He exceeded that measure on Friday and finished fourth at Liberty as his fourth throw became his best at 55-feet, 5-inches for a personal best.

Freshman teammate Kevin Fofanah finished fifth behind Wilkerson with his final throw of the competition going 54-feet, 1/2-inch to record a personal best.

In the women’s weight throw, current MEAC field athlete of the week Loren James, finished 10th with a throw of 52-feet, 6-inches. James is fourth in the conference in the weight throw after she threw 56-feet, 7 ½-inches at the Camel City Invitational last week. Also, Kayla Brown finished 17th in the weight throw on Friday (47-feet, 1-inch).

 On the track, two Aggies finished in the top-15 of the men’s 5000 meters. Freshman Morris Kimble finished 13th in 15:49.30 while junior Daquan Maddox placed 15th in 16:20.31. Junior Camille Martin finished 16th in the women’s 5000m with a time of 19:23.41.
