RALEIGH (February 9, 2019) – As North Carolina A&T men’s tennis continues to improve they are doing so with a good mix of veteran and newcomer which shows strong stability within the program.

On Saturday, the Aggies dropped a 6-0 decision to the N.C. State Wolfpack at N.C. State. But players such as senior Nicolas Arduh and freshman Vasil Ivanov are great examples of how the program has evolved.

“We played a very talented N.C. State team tonight, but it gave us the ability to see our areas of opportunities,” said N.C. A&T coach William Crutchfield who has given the program a forward direction over the past few seasons.

Ivanov is the current Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rookie of the week. His journey to N.C. A&T included him reaching out to coach Crutchfield along with several other schools during his junior year in high school. Ivanov had these discussions for approximately a year before making his decision to attend AggieLand.

“I really like his philosophy of tennis and the team, so I decided on A&T as my school of choice,” said Ivanov about Crutchfield.

As for Arduh, his journey to Greensboro did not include Crutchfield. He was contacted three years ago by the former N.C. A&T tennis coach. Arduh Googled N.C. A&T to learn about the college and the tennis program. Arduh discovered how the program had been reestablished recently and was on board to help make history.

“The school has so much history and the tennis team was new, and I wanted to be part of defining what Aggie tennis is,” said Arduh.

Arduh has certainly been a boost to the program as he has helped the Aggies return to the MEAC tournament during his career. Ivanov is already off to a great start in his career. Whether they learned about the program years ago or have recently been informed, the Aggies men’s tennis program continues to attract quality talent.
