EAST GREENSBORO –Junior Dustin Baber’s strong play at the plate and in the field last week helped the North Carolina A&T baseball team take two of three from the Florida A&M Rattlers in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series.
The series win kept the Aggies in first place in the MEAC Southern Division and it helped Baber earn MEAC co-player of the week honors. It was his second player of the week honor. For the week, the Aggies went 2-2 after a close midweek loss to USC Upstate.
Baber started all four games at shortstop for the week and batted .538 (7-for-13) with one double and six RBI to go along with a .615 slugging percentage and a .647 on-base percentage. Baber also scored three runs and stole a base.
Defensively, he had 14 fielding opportunities, Baber did not make an error.
In a 5-2 win over the Rattlers on Friday, April 5, Baber went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. On the next day, Baber drove in three runs and had a double in a resounding 15-3 win over FAMU.
For the season, Baber is batting .324 with eight doubles, two home runs and 17 RBI. He leads the team in stolen bases (11) and doubles.
In addition to Baber’s two player of the week nods, the Aggies have four other weekly honors this season with Tony Mack winning rookie of the week, Tim Luth winning pitcher of the week twice and Michael Johnson has a pitcher of the week honors once.
