Cross Country Shows Improvement at Elon Invite
ELON – The men and women’s cross country teams completed their third meet of the season at the Elon Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. Both men and women’s team come up short against Elon and UNC Greensboro as both teams placed third.
On the men’s side, freshman Franky Mills led the men with a time of 27:11, placing 12th overall. In his career debut, freshman Darrin White was behind Mills with a finishing time of 27:12. Junior Christian Harrison came in a few seconds later top two with placing 18th with a time of 27:43.
“There were a lot of personal best today, but there’s still room for improvement,” said coach Duane Ross.
Aggie senior Janessa Benn was the women’s fastest runner as she finished the 5k race in 20:11 for a 24th place overall finish.
Sophomore Janay Ferrell was not far away from Benn finishing second for the Aggies and 26th overall in 20:33. Ferrell’s time improved by almost minute from last season’s Elon Invite, where she finished with a time of 21:27. Sprinter Natalia “Roshel” Bygrave ran a personal best time of 22:41.
Both teams will take a week off before traveling to Charlotte for the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 28.
