Jessica Villegas became an assistant softball coach at North Carolina A&T in 2013. Villegas is responsible for the Aggies pitchers and other on-the-field duties.
Aggies pitcher Maiven McKnight was named second-team All-MEAC in 2015. In Villegas' first season working with Mohagony Headen, Headen posted a 7-6 record with a 4.33 ERA.
Villegas was a four-year member of the Jackson State softball team where she played under head coach Kenya Peters from 2007-10. Villegas, a left-handed pitcher made 75 career starts and 95 appearances for the Tigers. She recorded 243 strikeouts and complied and an earned run average of 4.43. During her sophomore season she finished with 112 strikeouts and a 3.79 ERA.
Offensively, Villegas produced a .264 career batting average which included 79 hits, 49 RBI, 18 doubles, and a slugging percentage of .341. In 2008, she tallied 31 hits and 21 RBI.
She was an All-SWAC selection, Jackson State Newcomer of the Year, and Dean’s List student-athlete. Villegas is a 2011 graduate of Jackson State and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in May.
