A&T Picked Second in Preseaon MEAC Poll

GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T women’s basketball team was picked to finish second in the MEAC preseason poll as voted on by the conference head coaches and sports information directors, the league announced Monday afternoon.

The Aggies totaled 559 points in the poll and received four first-place votes. Sophomore center Eboni Ross was named preseason All-MEAC first team. Ross, the 2012-13 MEAC Rookie of the Year, led the team in blocks (52), averaged 8.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and she shot 53 percent from the floor last season.

Senior guard Tracy King was named second team. King was second on the team in scoring (313) and averaged 10.1 points. The Alexandra, Va. native was also second in rebounds bringing down 5.6 boards per game.

A&T was picked behind reigning four-time MEAC champion Hampton who received 658 points in the poll and 20 first place votes.

Last season the Aggies fell to the Howard Bison in the MEAC semifinals but went on to appear in the WNIT. A&T posted a 22-10 overall record and finished with a 13-3 record in the league.

The Aggies will open the 2013-14 season on Friday, Nov. 8 when it faces Quinnipiac in the Preseason WNIT in Hamden, Conn.
