Aggies Overview:  The North Carolina A&T State volleyball team will conclude its home schedule on Tuesday in a non-conference match against the Pirates of East Carolina. The Aggies are coming off a 3-1 win to Bethune-Cookman. McDaniel (15) and Hawkins-Hollingsworth (11) finished in double-digit kills in their last match. But Stamnes has been the Aggies’ leader in non-conference matches, registering 2.41 kills per set. A&T is 1-19 against non-conference opponents. The Aggies are 0-1 to C-USA opponents with a 3-0 loss at home to Charlotte earlier in the season.  If A&T can get consistent production from its front row, it’ll help lead them to success against the Pirates.

Match Overview: ECU was on a two-match losing streak but snapped it with a 3-2 win over Middle Tennessee State on Sunday. The Pirates are 5-0 against MEAC opponents in 2013 with a pair of wins against N.C. Central, Morgan State, Savannah State, and Howard. ECU’s heavy hitter is Nicole Willis who leads the team in kills (3.75/set) and service aces (18). Whitney Campbell also contributes on the front row with 2.22 kills per set. Setting the attack is Zarah Cecich who is averaging 7.80 assists per game. Kierra Lee-Dunson leads ECU in blocks with 86 on the season.

Potential Star: McDaniel has led the Aggies in kills 12 times this season, with 11 of those matches resulting in double-figure kills. She also posted her fifth double-double of the season on Sunday with 15 kills and 12 digs.

News & Notes:

  •    Tuesday’s match is the first meeting between the two teams since 2006, when ECU swept A&T 3-0 in Minges Coliseum.
  •     The Aggies are looking for their first win over the Pirates since 2003, when A&T defeated ECU in four sets in Greensboro.
  •     Ashley Johnson is currently sixth in the MEAC in digs, averaging 3.67 digs per set. Stamnes is sixth in service aces (0.37/set).

From the Coach

“We’re excited about concluding our home schedule. We hope a big crowd comes out and supports us tonight. I hope the girls just go out, have fun, and give it their all. It’s also an important match that will help us prepare for our final two conference matches over the weekend before heading to Baltimore for the conference tournament. ” A&T head volleyball coach Hal Clifton
