NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The North Carolina A&T softball team fell 17-1 to Saint Louis in five innings in the consolation game at the Tennessee State Invitational Sunday afternoon in Nashville.
The Aggies (5-10 overall) defeated the Billikens on Friday, 7-4, but Sunday’s matchup was just too much for A&T who finished with just three hits while SLU tallied 17.
Senior catcher Sabrina Edmonds was named to the all-tournament team following the invitational. Edmonds appeared and started in all five games at the tournament where A&T went 2-3. She led A&T in batting (.357), finishing with five hits including a home, a double and two RBI.
After the Billikens took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Aggies scored a run in the bottom half of the inning to trail SLU 2-1. Alejandra Barcenas led off with walk and moved to second off a wild pitch. Edmonds singled up the middle, placing Aggies on first and third. Haley Snyder’s RBI single to right field scored Barcenas for A&T’s first and only run.
SLU had a big second inning where they scored 11 runs off eight hits and four A&T errors to stretch its advantage to 13-1. The Billikens scored a run in the fourth and three in the fifth inning. Dasia Moore recorded A&T’s last hit in the fourth inning.
Brianna Lore recorded the win and finished with four strikeouts. Shelby Snyder dropped to 0-5 in the circle with the loss.
The Aggies will visit Norfolk State for a non-conference doubleheader on Friday, March 14 beginning at 4 p.m.
