Two Aggie Baseball Players Earn Second Team

GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T senior slugger Luke Tendler earned his third career All-MEAC recognition on Wednesday when the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced its 2014 all-conference baseball selections. Tendler (6-0, 195, Wilmington, N.C.) joined teammate Lester Salcedo (6-0, 195, JR, Wilmington, Calif.) on the MEAC’s second team.

It was Tendler’s second second-team designation. He was named first-team All-MEAC as a freshman.


Luke_TendlerTendler led the Aggies in batting (.345), hits (57), slugging percentage (.539), home runs (7), RBI (32), total bases (89) and runs scored (35). His reputation as a great hitter was emphasized by the fact teams pitched around him all season as he ranked 11th in the nation in walks. Tendler’s ended his four years at A&T with a career .349 average with 66 doubles, 15 triples, 24 home runs and 174 RBI.

Tendler led the Aggies in batting in three out of the seasons played. He started 199 out of the 200 games he played at A&T. His career highlights include being named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, a Louisville Slugger third-team All-American as a junior and he was named MEAC Preseason Player of the Year in 2013.

Lester_SalcedoIn his first season as an Aggie, Salcedo split time at third base, catcher, designated hitter and he even threw two innings as a pitcher. His .292 batting average was second on the team, and he was tied for second on the team in RBI with 25. He had 13 multi-hit games, only four behind Tendler for the team lead. Salcedo also had six multi-RBI games.

Salcedo is a junior college transfer out El Camino-Compton Community College. He is an A&T scholar athlete majoring in Liberal Studies/Race, Class and Cultures.
