Ariel Newman was announced as an assistant volleyball coach for North Carolina A&T under head coach Hal Clifton on June 7, 2016. Her primary responsibilities are planning, recruiting, coaching and administrative duties as assigned.
Newman joins the Aggies after her time as the Guilford College Quakers volleyball assistant coach, which she began in the spring of 2015. Prior to her arrival at Guilford, Newman coached extensively in the local high school and club ranks. Newman has coached as either an assistant or head coach with the Piedmont Volleyball Club since 2009. She spent almost three years coaching the Greensboro Home School team, taking the 2014 team to the varsity state title.
Newman started her college volleyball career at Virginia Commonwealth University before transferring to University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she earned her Bachelor Degree in sociology. She lettered three years and was a team captain as a senior for the Spartans. Newman received her Masters in Psychology with an emphasis on Sports and Performance from the University of the Rockies in 2014.
A Greensboro native, Newman attended Southern Guilford High School where she was a four-time North State all-conference player and two-time Mid-Piedmont 3-A Conference Player of the Year.
