Adrian Powell became the director of basketball operations under North Carolina A&T head men’s basketball coach Jay Joyner on July 6, 2016. Powell will be in charge of the everyday administrative work in the men’s basketball office. He will also be in charge of organizing the summer basketball camp, assisting with travel and monitoring classes.
Powell played professionally in Finland before accepting the position at N.C. A&T. He is a familiar face to Aggie fans having won the school’s most recent men’s basketball MEAC championship when N.C. A&T claimed the title in 2013. Powell was named the tournament’s most outstanding performer and received all-tournament honors. Powell then led the Aggies to their first-ever NCAA tournament win with a 73-72 triumph over Liberty in the First Four.
The 2012-13 team was also the school’s first 20-win team in 25 seasons. Powell is one of only 30 players in school history to score more than 1,000 points. In his career, he averaged 9.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. As a senior he averaged 12.3 points, 1.8 steals and 1.9 assists while shooting 37 percent from 3-point range.
Powell has a liberal studies degree from N.C. A&T.
