Harvison Has Excellent Second Round In Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 11, 2017) – The North Carolina A&T women’s golf team completed their second golf tournament of the spring semester in eighth place at the Lady EagleCat Invitational at the par-72, 5,952-yard LPGA International golf course.
Winthrop University and Bethune-Cookman University share hosting duties for the tournament. The Aggies were plus-77 for the tournament. Junior Jill “JC” Harvison led the Aggies after having a terrific day at the LPGA course where she played as a junior college athlete. After shooting a 9-over par 81 on Thursday to finish the day tied for 36th, Harvison came out more focused in round 2.
Harvison pared the 358-yard par-4 on his first hole before birding the 364-yard par-4 on her second hole. Harvison went on to birdie the par-5 fifth (469 yards) and the par-4 seventh (372 yards) to come to the par-4, 338-yard No. 8 1-under par. But a tough double bogey on No. 8 left Harvison at 1-over after the first nine. She shot the last nine 3-over par to finish with a 4-over par 76. Harvison had the only round in the 70’s for the Aggies.
Junior Sofia Alvarez, who has provided a formidable 1-2 punch on the course along with Harvison for the Aggies this season, 9-over on Thursday and 10-over on Friday. She only had one birdie for the week to finish tied for 42nd. Freshman Erica Jackson also finished out in the top 50. Jackson had an interesting first round. She birdied 2, 8 and 10 but shot a nine on the par-4 12 (356 yards) to counter her gains.
N.C. A&T returns to the course next month to compete in The Citadel 2017 Oyster Shuck Match Play in Charleston, S.C., April 3-4.
