GREENSBORO (April 12, 2017) – Sophomore Kayla White has mainly earned her reputation at North Carolina A&T running the 100-meter hurdles. But she earned women’s track athlete of the week from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference running the 100 meters at the invitation-only Spec Towns Invitational hosted by the University of Georgia.

White broke the school record in the 100m by finishing in 11.39 to place third behind unattached runner Charonda Williams and Clemson’s Sabria Hadley. White toppled Reneazia Collins’ old school record of 11.42 set in 2015 while also lowering her personal record from the previous 11.52. White’s 100m time ranks her first in the MEAC, 10th in the East region and 16th in the nation.

She was also one-fourth of the 4x100 meter relay team that finished second, three-tenths of second behind South Carolina, at the Spec Towns Invitational with a time of 44.51. Sophomore Yakira Love, junior India Brown and freshman Tori Ray joined her in the effort. White qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round (East regional) in the 100mh and 100m as a freshman. She qualified in the 100 at the 2016 Aggie Last Chance meet just before the start of the East regional. She won the 100mh title at the 2016 MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She placed second in the 200m at last year’s MEAC outdoor championships.

The Aggies will host the Aggie Invitational at Irwin Belk Track inside Aggie Stadium on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15. The meet starts at 3 p.m., on Friday and 9 a.m., on Saturday.
