Volleyball Adds Three to 2017 Roster
GREENSBORO (May 15, 2017) – Head coach Hal Clifton announced three new additions to the North Carolina A&T volleyball team on Friday. Kaiyah Haley (5-foot-5, defensive specialist Greensboro, NC, Grimsley HS, Piedmont Volleyball Club), Milanna Morgan (5-4, defensive specialist Lee's Summit, Mo., Lee's Summit West HS, Southwind Rising Volleyball Club) and Megan Wiggins (5-6, setter, Seal Beach, Calif., Murrieta Valley HS, Golden West Community College) will join the Aggies volleyball program for the 2017 season.
In the fall the Aggies signed, Edie Brewer (6-foot, setter, Lakota East High School, West Chester, Ohio), Courtney Pitt (6-1, outside hitter, Farmville Central HS, Farmville, N.C.) and Fatimah Shabazz (6-0, middle hitter, Northwest HS, Cincinnati, Ohio). The Aggies return eight players from last season's team.
“These three young ladies, along with the addition of the ladies we added in the fall, will provide our team with depth and balance that we have been in search of. Megan will stabilize our setting position and Milanna and Kaiyah will add more ball control,” said Clifton.
Haley spent three varsity seasons at nearby Grimsley. She was a team captain her senior season and was named team MVP as a sophomore and junior. She led her club team to a first-place finishes at the Winter Jam, the Atlantic Coast Power League and the Carolina Power Event. She will compete at defensive specialist and libero.
Kaiyah is a very gritty and tough competitor. She has settled into her role as the libero for her club team and has done a great job,” said Clifton. “She has good range defensively and makes a lot of really good reads. She will also bring a calmness and confidence to our serve receive. She is comfortable in any backrow position and is all about winning.”
Morgan will add another defensive presence for N.C. A&T. She broke the school record for digs in a season as a senior. She is third on the all-time list at Lee's Summit West for digs in a match. She also ranks in the Top-10 in serve receive. She was a second-team all-conference selection as a senior. She led Southwind Rising Volleyball Club to a second-place finish at the Sunflower Tournament.
“Milanna will add to our ball control. She does a very nice job of creating angles and getting the ball to target,” said Clifton. “She is very comfortable on the court and brings a ton of energy. She is a team player and is always encouraging her teammates. She is a very quick back row player and is relentless in the pursuit of the ball. Milanna competes to win daily, whether it's in practice or in a match.”
Wiggins averaged 5.1 assists and 1.6 digs per set at Golden West last season. She had 26 assists and nine digs in five sets on Nov. 16, 2016 and followed that performance with 27 assists in a three-set win on Nov. 22. At Murrieta Valley, she earned all-academic honors twice, was awarded team MVP twice and was an international baccalaureate student.
“We are excited to add Megan to our team. She brings with her a wealth of experience and a very good understanding of the game,” said Clifton. “She sets a very consistent tempo and has great location. Our hitters will love hitting her sets. She is very quick and commands the court. She is also a tremendous defender in the back row. We love her volleyball IQ and her drive. She competes hard and sets high expectations for her teammates.”
