Pitt Wins MEAC Volleyball Player of the Week
GREENSBORO (August 29, 2017) – Senior Alyssa Pitt helped the North Carolina A&T volleyball team get off to its best start in 16 years with a spectacular weekend in Montgomery, Ala. Pitt was rewarded with player of the week for her effort at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup tournament hosted by Alabama State.
Over the three-match tournament, Pitt posted a .355 hitting percentage in the tournament and averaged 3.17 kills and 1.0 blocks in 12 sets played. Pitt’s weekend helped the Aggies defeat Alabama A&M and Grambling State before losing a tough five-set match to tournament host ASU. The Aggies 2-0 start to the season was their best since 2001.
Pitt was productive in the later sets throughout the weekend. In the three-set win over Alabama A&M on Friday, Aug. 25, Pitt posted 12 of her match-high 14 kills over the final two sets, posting a .526 hitting percentage over that time frame. She also had four of her five total blocks over the final two sets.
In the Aggies four-set victory over the Tigers on Saturday, Pitt posted eight of her match-high 13 kills in the final two sets. She had 13 attack attempts combined in the third and fourth sets without an error (.615 hitting percentage).
“Alyssa had a really good opening weekend. She entered preseason with a really good mindset and it showed,” said N.C. A&T coach Hal Clifton. “She is a very physical player at the net. We are glad to see her get rewarded for her efforts.”
The Aggies face the Elon Phoenix 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Elon.
